THRI Revision Option Process
The ACM/IEEE Conference on Human-Robot Interaction, in years where ACM is the primary sponsor, has the option for the program committee to suggest papers not yet ready for publication in the conference to be transferred to the ACM Transactions on Human-Robot Interaction Journal for continued review. Papers will be transferred with existing reviews and recommendations (as per granted review permissions) to serve as the first round of review, with the goal of potentially expediting the publication process.
Nomination Process
In order for a paper to be considered, authors must agree to this process when submitting their ACM HRI conference paper, as per a field on the submission form.
Papers are nominated using the following process:
- Conference Program Committee members, while reviewing a paper and its reviews, can nominate a paper for consideration if they consider that it has promise but needs more revision and further review before being published.
- The Program Chairs consider nominations and provide a nomination package to the journal.
- Typically, only 5-10 papers are nominated each year using this process.
Accepting Nomination and Submission Process
If your paper is nominated for the THRI Revision Option, authors must follow the steps below within the timeframe specified in the nomination email (30 days), to accept the nomination and join the process. There is no obligation, and if authors take no action, then the nomination will end.
Important
Do not edit your paper content yet – the new editor will review all material and provide direction.
- Convert your original HRI conference paper to the ACM THRI template, without editing your paper content, and submit the paper to the THRI online submission system.
- During submission, select paper type “THRI Revision Option”.
- Do not submit a cover letter.
- Do not submit your reviews or rejection letter from the ACM HRI Conference as they will be transferred within ACM as per reviewer agreement.
THRI Revision Option Paper Review Process
Upon submission, THRI Revision Option papers will be assigned to a THRI editor based on area. They will review the paper and existing reviews, and provide an editorial review on the paper as is, to provide direction on revisions. This step will not require external review, and we expect it to take about one month.
It is possible at this stage that the editor recommends rejection, and the paper is no longer considered.
Following, authors revise their manuscript based on the editorial board’s direction, and submit the revision. The paper then follows the standard THRI process for further review.
