Together, we will explore how we can translate insights from academia into foundational framing which could help guide industry approaches to building robots that are both valuable to people and acceptable to people for in-home use. If the HRI community could offer guidance or principles to the humanoid robotics industry, what would it be?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Topics<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The special session will focus on the theme of \u201cHow might we build robots that provide people with meaningful value in the home?\u201d and may explore the following topics:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>What types of tasks \/ use cases would be most valuable for people \/ society and why?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How might robot design and use influence user acceptance and social acceptability?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What principles might guide robot design and use?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How might we learn from existing industry technologies and products in designing for consumer robots?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What might transparent or explainable human-robot interaction look like in consumer settings, striking the right balance of information?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Audience<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This workshop is open to anyone who is interested, including researchers and practitioners from industry, academia, and other HRI conference attendees. <strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#ff0000\" class=\"has-inline-color\">This special session is free to attend<\/mark><\/strong>; however, <strong>space is limited<\/strong>, so apply via the link below by <s>January 15<\/s> <strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#ff0000\" class=\"has-inline-color\">January 22, 2026<\/mark><\/strong>, and you will receive a notification of eligible attendance by <strong>January 29, 2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>If you are interested in attending<\/strong>, please <a href=\"https:\/\/forms.gle\/A2K2XRpPAK3N6Jv87\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">apply here<\/span><\/strong><\/a> with a short paragraph related to the workshop topics (fewer than 250 words).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>If you are interested in travel support<\/strong>, you must <em>also <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/forms.gle\/fwZuqFVhXeQZYZB16\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">submit a paper<\/span><\/strong><\/a> (described below). Travel support (up to $1,500 per person) will be offered to attendees who submit a paper that is accepted.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Papers (Optional)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You are <em>invited <\/em>(but <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">not<\/span> required<\/em>) to submit a short workshop paper (1\u20132 pages, not including references) focused on the session theme and topics above. The paper will not be published and is not required to attend; however, <em>a paper submission <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">is<\/span> required to be considered for travel support<\/em> (up to $1,500 per person).
